My friend Karen called me on a Tuesday, crying. She’d been washing her hair and a clump came out between her fingers… the size of a cotton ball. Cancer was her first thought. Her doctor ran blood work, said her labs looked fine, and told her to try biotin.

That clump was not fine. And biotin was not the answer.

And maybe you’ve seen it too. The shower drain fills after every wash. Your ponytail feels half as thick as it used to. The part line keeps getting wider, like a path wearing through grass.

So let me tell you what Karen’s doctor should have said.

Your scalp holds roughly 100,000 follicles. Each one runs on its own clock… a growth phase that lasts years, a rest phase that lasts months, then a shed.

Think of it like an apartment building where every lease sits on a different schedule. One tenant renews in March, another in June, a third in October. So the building always looks full. Estrogen was the landlord who kept signing long leases… two to seven years before anyone moved out.

When estrogen walks off the job, the leases get shorter. And a whole floor gives notice at the same time. That is why the drain fills up. The follicles are not dead. They are just between tenants all at once.

But then androgens move in. With less estrogen in the mix, testosterone byproducts like DHT start shrinking each follicle. The hairs that do grow come in thinner and shorter every cycle.

👀 hidden blockage revealed

Hormones, genetics, stress, aging…

They’re all blamed for hair loss.

New research shows the “cause” doesn’t matter.

Yet what does is the bottleneck that stops hair from growing: Clogged follicles.

See, when hair follicles are clogged with dead skin, hardened oils, and other gunk…

No new hair can grow.

Yet once you clear this “Follicle Clog”…

Your hair’s thickness, health, and volume surges back to life.

In fact, a “Follicle Clog” clearing technique we developed is linked to a 32% reduction in hair loss.

Terri, who tried it, said: “There’s way less hair in the drain. It’s actually staying on my head.”

If you’ve struggled with thinning hair for years… and would love to see baby hairs growing again…

I show you how to “unclog” your hair follicles in this short video:

Read this part twice
Your follicles lost their landlord. Estrogen kept every growth cycle long and staggered… and when it walked off, a whole building’s worth of leases came due at once. You are not failing. Your body changed the terms.

Nobody warns you about this one. Hot flashes get the headlines. But more than half of postmenopausal women lose visible hair… and most of us think we caused it. You did not.

And a study of 178 women aged 50 to 65 found hair loss in 52%. It tracks with hormones, not with your shampoo. And for many women, the worst shedding tapers. Follicles that rest can still wake up.

A few things that may help, starting tonight
Ask your doctor about topical minoxidil. It is the only FDA-approved treatment for female pattern hair loss. The 5% foam works for most women with fewer side effects than the liquid.
Rule out thyroid problems and low iron first. Both cause shedding that looks like menopause hair loss, but both reverse when treated. A simple blood draw can tell.
Use a wide-tooth comb on wet hair. Hair is weakest when it’s wet. Cut back on daily heat tools too… you cannot regrow what you snap off.
Ask whether spironolactone fits your picture. It is an anti-androgen pill used off-label to slow thinning at the part line. Your dermatologist can run the right hormone panel first.

Diane vs. the Internet

Rosemary oil is all over social media right now. Women claim it works as well as minoxidil for hair growth… naturally.

One study sits behind that. In 2015, researchers gave 100 men… men, not women… rosemary oil or minoxidil 2%. Both groups grew a modest amount of hair after six months. There was no placebo group, and it has never been replicated. The 2% they tested is weaker than the 5% foam that is FDA-approved for you.

Rosemary smells nice. That is not a treatment plan.

The words to bring to your appointment
“I’ve been losing hair since my periods changed. Can we check my thyroid, iron, and hormones, and talk about whether minoxidil or another treatment could help?”

Of course, I could be wrong about your hair. Sudden patchy loss or rapid thinning can point somewhere else… and that needs a doctor, not an email. But if the drain has been filling up for months, you know what to ask for now.

Start with the blood draw…

One quick question

Noticing more hair in the drain lately?
Yes   No
Just a quick poll. Your answer helps me choose what to cover next.

We’ll figure out the rest together.

P.S. If you want a real count, try this. On a clean, dry day, run your fingers through your hair over a white towel. Count what falls. Do it once a month. That number tells you more than the mirror.
